Why Are You Following a Ketogenic Diet? The Results Are In!
There are so many reasons to follow a Ketogenic diet, especially with Intermittent Fasting that I was interested to know what proportion of people are following the Keto diet for weight loss compared to the many other good reasons for doing so, including:
- Diabetes prevention and cure
- Improved mental /physical energy
- To cure fatty liver / pancreas
- Protect / repair the brain
- Treat depression
- Treat Cancer
On the 14 Dec 2018 the Keto Fight Club fb group was asked the following question:

GROUP QUESTION: What’s Are Your Reasons for Following a Ketogenic Diet / Intermittent Fasting plan?
There are so many benefits to Ketogenic dieting and Intermittent Fasting ,especially in relation to weight loss, blood sugar control and health recovery (autophagy). Please pick your reasons below. BTW you can pick more than one, and if I’ve forgotten to add your reason then please add it yourself.
Of those that responded the Keto Fight Club “Reasons Why You Are Doing Keto” poll results were as follows:
This equates to the following percentage:
- Weight Loss – 39.1%
- Improve Mental/Physical Energy – 22.6%
- Protect/Repair Brain – 11.3%
- Treat Depression – 8.7%
- Prevent Diabetes – 7.0%
- Reverse Diabetes – 5.2%
- Cure Fatty Liver/Pancreas – 5.2%
- Treat Cancer – 0.9%
What I find interesting from the results of the Keto Fight Club “Reasons Why You Are Doing Keto” poll is that weight loss only accounts for less than half of all reasons. The fact that Keto is being recognised as a promising treatment for many other conditions, especially those that are helped by reduced inflation, is encouraging. It will be interesting to repeat this poll in the future as the Keto Fight Club group grows and public understand of the Keto diet with or without Intermittent Fasting develops as a potential therapy, or downright cure, for more and more ailments and diseases.
